With a large delegation of Korean businesses going on a four-nation tour of the Middle East, Doosan Group (Chairman Yongmaan Park) designated the first week of March as “Middle-East Week.” Doosan Infracore plans to participate in the Middle East’s largest energy trade fair while Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is signing multiple technology agreements with customers in Saudi Arabia.

Doosan Infracore is participating in Middle East Electricity 2015, held in Dubai from March 2 to 4. The trade fair, now in its 39th year, is expected to receive more than 1,400 exhibitors from 60 countries and about 50,000 visitors.

At the trade fair, Doosan Infracore is displaying eight engines, including the DP series of new generator models and compact diesel engines (G2) mounted on Bobcat construction equipment and Doosan excavators. Notably, Doosan PSI, a generator engine that runs on natural gas and was developed in partnership with U.S.-based PSI last year, is being showcased for the first time at the exhibition. During the exhibition period, the company plans to host a conference to share the company’s vision and strategy with dealers from more than 30 countries.

Recently, Doosan Infracore has been focusing on its generator engine business, expanding its lineups and increasing performance. Last year, a release of new models with the engine output enhanced by 15-20 percent led to a 20 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with two Saudi Arabian customers to lay the foundation for long- and medium-term cooperation in the power plant and desalination plant sectors.

On March 3, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction signed power plant technology transfer agreements in the three areas: plant design and operations, performance improvements for existing plants, and new and renewable energy technology development.

On March 4, an agreement for joint desalination plants research work will be signed with Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC). Under the agreement, they plan to secure low-cost, high-efficiency desalination technology by localizing the reverse osmosis (RO) process, the fastest emerging desalination method in the Middle East.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has announced plans to win more contracts and build a stronger business foundation in the region by developing and exchanging technologies jointly with customers in the areas of power and desalination, which require high levels of technology and reliability.

In addition, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction’s Rabigh II thermal power plant, the single largest thermal power plant project in the world, is scheduled to be completed in April, after having been started in 2010. In the desalination plant area, the Ras Al Khair desalination plant, also the world’s largest, with capacity of 1 million tons, is currently being built. Since its entry into the Saudi Arabian market in 1978, Doosan has earned $9 billion in sales in that country alone, and a total of $20 billion in accumulated sales across the entire Middle East region.
