G2 Engine’s Innovative Technology Recognized in Europe

The efficiency and green technology behind Doosan Infracore’s G2* engine was recently recognized in Europe. On February 6, the G2 diesel engine received the “the Innovation Award” at the 2014 FLTA Awards for Excellence from the UK Forklift Truck Association (FLTA).

As one of the UK’s most trusted associations, FLTA hands out its Year of Excellence Awards to industries, people, or technologies that have contributed the most in terms of innovation, environment, ergonomics and safety. Doosan Infracore competed against its competitors and six other companies that were also nominated for the award. Winners were voted by the visitors of to the on the FLTA website.

The G2 engine sets a new standard in non-DPF (diesel particulate filter) technology, and will be mounted in Tier 4 Final Bobcat® loaders, excavators and Toolcat™ utility work machines. Because of this innovative approach, the G2 engine was also selected as one of the “10 Mechanical Technologies of the Year” at the end of 2013 by the Korean Federation of Mechanical Engineering Societies(KAMES).

In addition to being used on Bobcat equipment, the G2 engine is also used in 2 to 3.5-ton forklifts manufactured by Doosan Corporation Industrial Vehicle. Because it is mountable on the equipment manufactured domestic and overseas plants, the G2 replaces engines once imported from Japan.

Tim Waples, Director of Doosan Industrial Vehicle UK said, “We believe the G2 is a shining example of the applied research and development capability within the Doosan Group and shows Korean innovation at its best. Instead of trying to modify an existing engine to comply with new regulations, our designers made a completely new engine that reduces emissions so much that a particulates filter is no longer needed.”

Wonjoon Choi, Vice President of Doosan Infracore’s BG Strategy commented, “This Year of Excellence award is going to be the backbone in securing customers and it will also give us a breakthrough in engine-powered forklifts sales.” He added, “I sincerely thank our staff who have given their all from the design of the engine to production and sales.”

* The Doosan Infracore G2 Engine is a high-efficiency, environmentally friendly engine that uses Doosan’s Ultra Low PM Combustion (ULPC) to reduce exhaustive emissions. The G2 meets the Tier 4 Final emissions standard, which is the most strict exhaust regulatory standard, without using a high-cost diesel particulate filter. Doosan Infracore completed construction of the G2 Engine Production Plant in October 2012 and began producing engines for forklifts. The plant is in full swing to produce engines that will be mounted on the selected Bobcat compact construction equipment. The market for compact diesel engines is expected to expand to include agricultural machinery, air compressors and forklifts.
