Doosan Infracore Engine to actively advance into North America’s almost impenetrable engine market
2012.07.13

The Doosan Infracore Engine has signed deals with PSI, North America’s largest gas generator maker, and Clarke, the world’s number one fire pump manufacturer, to actively advance into North American markets.

The Doosaninfracore Engine signed a mega deal with PSI on 18 June to supply engine blocks and long blocks including CRS by 2015. PSI, the biggest gas generator maker in North America, provides 40,000 generators a year to the North American market.

The emergency generator market in North America has been dominated by local engine manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Cummins and John Deere, not allowing the entry of foreign makers. This deal is expected to allow emergency generators equipped with Doosan’s gas engines to occupy more than 50% of North America’s mid-sized generator market via PSI’s supply chain. PSI president and CEO Gary Winemaster said, “Over the past several years, PSI gas generators equipped with Doosan Infracore’s engines have gained popularity in the market, thereby improving brand awareness. This is why we decided to install more Doosan engines in our generators.” The deal was concluded thanks to the Doosan Infracore Engin’s ceaseless efforts to enhance product quality.

The Doosaninfracore Engine also inked a deal with Clarke, the world’s number one fire pump maker, to expand its engine supply by several fold, on June 19, 2012. Doosan Infracore provided only 177 engines to Clarke in 2011. Clarke has also recognized the high quality of Doosan engines and decided to replace its 8.1ℓ engines from other makers by Doosan products.

Vice president Lee Jong-dae (head of the Doosan Infracore Engine), executive director Lim Han-gyu (sales team, Doosan Infracore Engine), managing director Lee Jong-wan (global sourcing, Doosan Infracore Engine) and managing director Cho Young-jin (strategy, Doosan Infracore Engine) visited PSI’s head office in Illinois and Clarke’s headquarters in Ohio from June 18 to 19, 2012, to conclude the two deals.

On this occasion, vice president Lee Jong-dae exchanged opinions with the two firms on the use of upcoming compact engines (G2), the future supply of VX (1MW heavy engine) in the North American market and the sharing of know-how in quality and service. The Engine plans to make inroads into compact and heavy engine markets by launching new products, as well as the mid-sized engine market where its market share has gone up.
